The Congress will officially open on Sunday, September 16^th, 2007, at 2:30 p.m. with a Consensus Conference on Prebiotics organized by FAO, followed by a keynote lecture.
 

The scientific program will include invited lectures, symposia, roundtable discussions, oral and posters communications. The Scientific Committees have devoted their efforts to creating a well-rounded and updated program on the following issues.

Call for Abstracts

 

All participants are invited to submit abstract on the listed topics for presentation as oral or poster contributions. Abstract may only be submitted via Internet filling the form provided by the website http://www.probiotics-prebiotics-newfood.org or www.emec-roma.com starting from December 15, 2006.

Deadline for abstract submission is June 15^th 2007. Late abstract submissions will not be considered. Authors should indicate their presentation preference as poster only or oral/poster contribution. Authors will be notified about the acceptance and presentation modalities within July 15^th 2007.

Authors with accepted abstracts must register for the Congress by July 31, 2007, in order to guarantee the abstract publication in the Congress CD-Rom.

No Abstract Book will be printed and all accepted abstract will be made available to the participants on the CD-Rom only.

Participant are given the opportunity to register for the Congress and social events, starting from December 15^th, 2006, via the Congress’s web site: http://www.probiotics-prebiotics-newfood.org or http://www.emec-roma.com/

Alternatively, please print the web copy of the registration form, fill in and send it by fax (0039 06 80692586) with copy of the bank payment and, when applicable, certificate of SOMED membership.

Fees (20% VAT included).

* SOMED members, that have regularly paid their membership fee within April 30, 2007, are entitled to a 40% reduction in congress registration fees for Participants and Junior Participants.

** the applicant’s registration form must be accompanied by a copy of an official identity card.

On-Site Registration

A limited number of on-site registrants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Confirmation of registration

Confirmation of registration will be sent by the Organising Secretariat only by e-mail within August 31^th 2007 at the very latest.

Cancellations and refunds

Written cancellation must be sent to the Organising Secretariat.

· 50% of the total amount will be refund for cancellation received within July 30, 2007

· No refunds will be made after July 30, 2007

· Refunds will be made after the Congress has been concluded.

Continuing Medical Education

The Scientific Committee is now in the process of obtaining Continuing Medical Education credits in conjunction with participation in the educational sessions.

TRAVEL TO AND IN ROME

By Plane to Leonardo da Vinci - Fiumicino Airport:

To reach downtown from the Airport, it’s possible to take a train (running every 30 minutes) directed to the main Railway Station (Stazione Termini) or a taxi.

By Train to Termini Station:

The main Railway Station (Stazione Termini) is centrally located and it’s possible to reach directly the Congress venue by bus #64 or taxi.

By car:

The car can be parked at Terminal Gianicolo.

PASSPORTS AND VISAS

All visitors entering Italy must be provided with a valid Passport. For European Community citizens an Identity Card is sufficient. Participants should check the Italian Embassy or Consulate in their country for visa and health certificate requirements.

HOTEL ACCOMMODATION

From December 15, 2006 rooms can be reserved in the hotels listed in the Congress web site: www.probiotics-prebiotics-newfood.org or www.emec-roma.com.

The rates, per night per room, include continental breakfast and local taxes.

Alternatively, registrants can print from the web the hotel reservation form, fill in and send it by fax with a copy of the bank payment.

Due to the high number of visitors in Rome over this period, early booking is strongly recommended.

CLIMATE

September in Rome is still hot but unpredictable. For all the excursions we suggest casual wear and outdoor shoes.

INSURANCE

The Congress Organizers cannot accept liability for personal injuries or for loss of, or damage to, property belonging to congress participants (or their accompanying persons), either during or as a result of the congress. Please check the validity of your own insurance.

All banks in Italy change foreign currency and traveller’s cheques. Banks are open from Monday to Friday 08.30am to 1.30pm and most of them also open for one hour early in the afternoon.
